I know I am not alone when I say this but “I have an ever growing backlog of games.”
While it has grown here and there over the past couple of years between my partner and I it wasn’t until more recently that we realized that it was larger than we both initially thought. Part of this was down to rediscovering some lost games when I moved house last year.
During the time that the backlog really started to grow, my partner and I went through all of our video games collection and sort it out into what we wanted to keep hold of and what we could trade in or pass on. We did manage to shrink the collection to a point but it never really stays like that for long. With most of the games traded in, we opted for in-game credit so that we could put it towards other games, accessories and consoles in the future.
Back to the original point though. The backlog never really stops growing. I know we’ve added a ‘small’ handful of games to it since early December and part of that was in the post-Christmas sales and some of which were received as gifts at Christmas.
Now I’ve had some extra spare time lately so I decided to sit down with what I knew was in the backlog and firstly make a list while making sure that each console had its own list. I guess it was partially influenced by the recent Marie Kondo hype that is going around. (I still haven’t sat down and watched it all yet but I’m getting to it.)
With the list nearly completed it was pretty interesting to see just how many games still remained in the collection overall across all the different platforms which include games from the Nintendo 64, original PlayStation, Game Boy and more. There is easily over one hundred and fifty games if not more and that’s not even accounting for digital games! In fact, I don’t think I even want to start with them yet. There’s just so many!
This really got me thinking as to where to start with the backlog. With so much variety to choose from, I found it pretty difficult to find a starting point. Instead, I made another list (numerous lists have been created actually) and picked one game from Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Nintedo3DS.
Now I haven’t picked a time frame as such to complete each of these games in but to try and focus on playing these games first before getting stuck into another unless I’m playing a new release.
The games I have decided to start on are as followed:
- Mirrors Edge Catalyst – Xbox One
- Steamworld Dig 2 – PlayStation 4
- Dead Cells – Nintendo Switch
- Detective Pikachu – Nintendo 3DS
I selected these games as I know they have been in my collection for a while and know I am yet to start them so they seem like a good place to begin.
I honestly do not know how long it will take me to progress through my backlog but my aim for this year is to try and complete at least twelve games from the backlog. I don’t think that is an unreachable target really to start with and if I complete more than those twelve then that’s a bonus.
Do you have a selection of games sat in a backlog? If so, what games are they and how do you plan on completing them? Let me know in the comments under this post!
